The shorebreak and rip currents on this Pacific beach are dangerous, and waves can suddenly run much farther up the sand than you’d expect. Enjoy it from well above the wet sand.
Solmar Beach (Playa Solmar) is the long, wide beach on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, stretching west from the granite cliffs of Land’s End toward Pedregal. It faces the open ocean, so you get big waves, big sunsets and, in winter, a good chance of spotting whales from the shore. What you don’t get is a safe swim.

Can you swim at Solmar Beach?
No. The shorebreak and rip currents on this Pacific beach are dangerous, and waves can suddenly run much farther up the sand than you’d expect. Enjoy it from well above the wet sand. For swimming, go to Médano Beach on the bay side of town.
How to get to Solmar Beach
You can walk to Solmar from downtown Cabo San Lucas along Avenida Solmar, or take a taxi.
Local tips before you go
- 1Stay off the wet sand; rogue waves happen here.
- 2Come for sunset: the sun drops straight into the Pacific.
- 3In whale season, scan the water beyond the surf line for spouts.
Check the beach flag
Los Cabos beaches use colored flags: green means good conditions, yellow means caution, red means dangerous conditions and no swimming, and black means the beach is closed. Flags change with the weather, so look for them when you arrive.
