On the Sea of Cortez side, usually yes. That’s the side where the boats drop you off, and the water there is normally calm and good for snorkeling.
Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor) is the little beach tucked between the granite rocks of Land’s End, right next to the Arch. There is no road to it, so you arrive by water taxi or kayak, and that short boat ride past the rocks is half the fun. The beach faces the Sea of Cortez, where the water is usually calm enough to swim and snorkel. Walk through the gap in the rocks and you’re on Divorce Beach, which faces the Pacific and is a very different story.

Can you swim at Lover’s Beach?
On the Sea of Cortez side, usually yes. That’s the side where the boats drop you off, and the water there is normally calm and good for snorkeling. Do not swim on the Pacific side (Divorce Beach): the surf and undertow there are dangerous. The area around the Arch can also be closed when conditions are bad. In August 2026 the municipality temporarily closed access to the Arch and Divorce Beach because of dangerous surf, so check before you go.
How to get to Lover’s Beach
Water taxis (pangas) and glass-bottom boats leave from the Cabo San Lucas marina and from Médano Beach. You can also kayak there from Médano if you’re comfortable paddling in open water with boat traffic. Arrange a fixed pickup time with your captain before you get dropped off.
Where does the name come from? Some say it’s because two seas meet here. Others tell an 18th-century story about a shipwrecked Japanese sailor and a local girl who met in secret on this beach. Whether or not it’s true, it’s a good story to tell on the boat ride over.
Local tips before you go
- 1There are no restrooms, shops, trash cans or shade on the beach. Bring water, sun protection and something to carry your trash back.
- 2Stay on the Sea of Cortez side for swimming and snorkeling.
- 3Confirm your return pickup time before the boat leaves you on the sand.
Check the beach flag
Los Cabos beaches use colored flags: green means good conditions, yellow means caution, red means dangerous conditions and no swimming, and black means the beach is closed. Flags change with the weather, so look for them when you arrive.
