Médano Beach (Playa El Médano) is the main beach of Cabo San Lucas and the one most visitors end up on, simply because it’s right there: it runs along the bay east of the marina, with Land’s End and the Arch in view. The water is usually calm and swimmable, and the beach is lined with restaurants, bars and water sports stands. If you want a quiet, empty beach, this isn’t it. If you want an easy swim, lunch with your feet in the sand and a water taxi to Lover’s Beach, it’s hard to beat.

Can you swim at Médano Beach?

Yes. Médano is on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo San Lucas, inside the bay, and it’s the most reliable swimming beach in town. Swimming areas are roped off from boat and jet ski traffic, so stay inside them. The calmest water is usually at the western end, near Playa Hacienda. As anywhere in Los Cabos, check the beach flag before you go in, because conditions change with swells and storms.

Several sections of Médano Beach hold the Blue Flag certification, including Playa Hacienda and the sections in front of resorts such as Casa Dorada, ME Cabo, Villa del Palmar, Villa del Arco and Villa La Estancia (Blue Flag list published by the Baja California Sur tourism department, SETUE, checked October 2026).

How to get to Médano Beach

You can walk to Médano from downtown Cabo San Lucas and the marina, or take a taxi or Uber to one of the public access points between the hotels. There is parking near the beach. Water taxis wait along the shore for trips out to Lover’s Beach and the Arch.

Médano is the water sports center of Cabo: you’ll find wave runners, parasailing, kayaks and paddleboards for rent, plus beach clubs and restaurants such as The Office and Mango Deck.

Local tips before you go

  • 1Arrive before 10:00 a.m. if you prefer a quieter swim before the music and water sports get going.
  • 2For the calmest water, head to the western end near Playa Hacienda.
  • 3Agree on the price and the pickup time with your water taxi captain before you leave the beach.

Check the beach flag

Los Cabos beaches use colored flags: green means good conditions, yellow means caution, red means dangerous conditions and no swimming, and black means the beach is closed. Flags change with the weather, so look for them when you arrive.
