Monuments is a surf beach first, with a rocky point, sea urchins and currents around the rocks. On calm days you can cool off near the sand, but it isn’t a beach for children or weak swimmers. If the waves are up or the flag is yellow or red, stay out.
Monuments Beach (Playa Monumentos) is at the Cabo San Lucas end of the Tourist Corridor, around Km 5 of the highway. It’s best known for its left point break, a wave for experienced surfers, and for the view back toward the Arch and Land’s End. There’s nothing on the sand in the way of services, so come prepared and enjoy it for the surf and the scenery.

Can you swim at Monuments Beach?
With caution. Monuments is a surf beach first, with a rocky point, sea urchins and currents around the rocks. On calm days you can cool off near the sand, but it isn’t a beach for children or weak swimmers. If the waves are up or the flag is yellow or red, stay out.
Playa Monument, the stretch of about 260 meters in front of The Cape hotel, first earned Blue Flag in 2020 and is on the Blue Flag list published by the Baja California Sur tourism department (SETUE).
How to get to Monuments Beach
Turn off the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1) at the Misiones del Cabo entrance, around Km 5, and tell the guard at the gate you’re going to the beach. Park at the top and walk down the path to the sand.

Local tips before you go
- 1Surf it only if you’re experienced; the wave breaks over rocks.
- 2Wear water shoes, as there are sea urchins in the rocks.
- 3Bring water, food and shade; there are no restrooms or shops.
Check the beach flag
Los Cabos beaches use colored flags: green means good conditions, yellow means caution, red means dangerous conditions and no swimming, and black means the beach is closed. Flags change with the weather, so look for them when you arrive.
