If you’re in Los Cabos for Day of the Dead, the celebrations don’t stop at Cabo San Lucas. The municipality has announced three community events over the long weekend: a parade and festival in the mountain town of Miraflores on Saturday, October 31, a walk through the old cemetery of San José del Cabo on Sunday, November 1, and the traditional Day of the Dead festival in San José del Cabo’s main square on Monday, November 2.

Miraflores, Saturday, October 31

The “Día de Muertos Miraflores 2026” parade starts at 5:00 p.m. from the Mercadito de las Mujeres and ends in front of the Monumento a las Madres, according to the Los Cabos city government. Children are invited to join in costume, carrying their traditional calaverita (the little container children carry when they go around asking for treats).

After the parade, the community festival takes over the area by the monument, with living catrina contests, pan de muerto (the sweet bread baked for the season) and traditional altars, live performances and plaster skull painting. There’s also a program called “Entre versos y cempasúchil,” dedicated to the memory of loved ones. It’s a small town event put on by the local delegation, so expect a family atmosphere rather than a big show, which is exactly its charm. Miraflores was recently named a Pueblo Histórico de México, and an evening there is a nice excuse to see it.

San José del Cabo cemetery walk, Sunday, November 1

At 4:00 p.m., the city’s Institute of Culture and the Arts (ICA) leads “Senda Forjadores de Los Cabos,” a walk through the Panteón Municipal of San José del Cabo. The tour visits the graves of people who helped shape the municipality and tells their stories. It’s organized with the municipal chronicler’s office, Grupo Raíces and the city archives, and it’s open to everyone. For anyone curious about local history it’s a rare chance to hear it told where it happened.

Day of the Dead festival in San José del Cabo, Monday, November 2

The Festival Tradicional de Día de Muertos 2026 takes place in the Plaza Antonio Mijares, the main square of San José del Cabo, with contests for altars, catrinas and catrines, and pan de muerto. The ICA says the altars start going up at 10:00 a.m. With prizes of up to 15,000 pesos for the best altar, it’s well worth a stroll around the plaza to see the entries. Registration to compete closes on Thursday, October 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the ICA offices in the Casa de la Cultura in San José del Cabo, so this one is for spectators if you’re reading this later.

If you’d like to know what the altars, the bread and the marigolds mean before you go, our guide to the Day of the Dead in Mexico explains the tradition, and you’ll find more dates on our Los Cabos events page.
