The beach drops off steeply, the undertow is strong, and summer swells can bring big surf. Enjoy it on foot, and swim at a protected beach or in a pool instead.
Hotelera Beach (Playa Hotelera) is the long beach in front of the San José del Cabo hotel zone, running about a mile south from the estuary. It’s a lovely place for a long walk on the sand or a bit of surf fishing, but it’s one of the beaches where you should stay out of the water.

Can you swim at Hotelera Beach?
No. The beach drops off steeply, the undertow is strong, and summer swells can bring big surf. Enjoy it on foot, and swim at a protected beach or in a pool instead.
How to get to Hotelera Beach
At the north end, a path next to the estuary leads onto the sand, and there are public access corridors between some of the hotels further south. There’s street parking near the access points.
Local tips before you go
- 1Stay out of the water, even if it looks calm near the shore.
- 2Walk north to the estuary end if you like birds and quieter sand.
- 3Bring water and sun protection; there are no public facilities.
Check the beach flag
