Can you swim here?Sometimes, with caution

The outer rocks get a strong surge, but the sandy pockets between them can be fine for wading and a short swim on calm days. If the flag is yellow or red, or the waves look strong, stay out.

Las Viudas Beach (Playa Las Viudas) is a quiet stretch of the Tourist Corridor, around Km 11.5 of the highway, where dark rock outcrops split the sand into small coves and tide pools. It’s less about a long swim and more about poking around the rocks at low tide, taking photos and getting away from the busier beaches.

Can you swim at Las Viudas Beach?

With caution. The outer rocks get a strong surge, but the sandy pockets between them can be fine for wading and a short swim on calm days. If the flag is yellow or red, or the waves look strong, stay out.

Playa Las Viudas is on the Blue Flag list published by the Baja California Sur tourism department (SETUE) and was rated A+ in the December 2025 control visit.

How to get to Las Viudas Beach

Leave the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1) near Km 11.5 and follow the dirt access road to the parking area.

Local tips before you go

  • 1Wear water shoes for the rocks and tide pools.
  • 2Bring food, water and shade; there are no vendors.
  • 3Go at low tide if you want to explore the pools.

Check the beach flag

Los Cabos beaches use colored flags: green means good conditions, yellow means caution, red means dangerous conditions and no swimming, and black means the beach is closed. Flags change with the weather, so look for them when you arrive.
