If you like lobster on vacation, the timing just got better: Baja California Sur opened Zone III lobster season on November 1, 2026, and it runs through April 30, 2027. That zone covers the Pacific coast from Boca de la Soledad in Comondú down to Cabo San Lucas, according to the state government.
What the state is saying
José Alfredo Bermúdez Beltrán, head of the state’s fisheries agency SEPADA, announced the opening and pointed to CONAPESCA figures that put Baja California Sur first in Mexico for lobster production, about 1,800 tons a year, with a reference price around 40 US dollars per kilogram. Most of the catch comes from Pacific North fishing towns near Mulegé, then moves south to markets and kitchens in Los Cabos and La Paz.
What it means for dinner in Cabo
During the open season, restaurants and seafood counters in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo can legally sell lobster caught fresh in local waters. Outside those dates, menus often lean on frozen stock or product from elsewhere. If you see “langosta fresca” on a menu between now and late April, this is the window when that claim is most likely to hold. Ask the kitchen if you want to be sure.
