Cabo San Lucas closes its 2026 fishing tournament calendar with the eighth Copa Presidente, a one-day sportfishing tournament with registration on Saturday, October 31, and the start on Sunday, November 1. The Los Cabos city government says the prize purse is over one million pesos and it expects 60 Mexican and international teams.

What’s being caught

Dorado (mahi-mahi) is the main species, and tuna and wahoo also count. The tournament is run by the city with Grupo Marlini, which is why you’ll also see it called the Copa Presidente Marlini. When it was announced in September, the organizers said last year’s edition drew 66 teams and they hope to match or beat that.

The Copa Presidente is the last event of the Fiestas Tradicionales de Cabo San Lucas 2026, the town’s annual festivities. It’s also the fifth municipal fishing tournament of the year, after La Ribera, Buenavista, San José del Cabo and an earlier one in Cabo San Lucas.

If you want to fish it

The city’s announcement doesn’t give the registration venue, entry fee or categories yet, as BCS Noticias points out, so a team that wants in should ask the municipal fisheries office (Dirección Municipal de Pesca y Acuacultura) or watch the city’s official channels. Fishing from a boat in Mexican waters also requires a sportfishing permit from Conapesca, the federal fisheries agency.
