Todos Santos is a lovely town, with its colonial architecture, is located on a meseta in the folds of the Sierra de la Laguna, 45 miles north of Cabo San Lucas.
With its lively cultural scene, it attracts Mexican and foreign writers, painters, sculptors and artisans, many of them staying to become a part of the community.
The fabulous year-round climate, friendly people and Mexican ambiance, along with the galleries and folk-art shops, attract hundreds of visitors, some motivated by a desire to get to know the destination that is said to have inspired a famous song by The Eagles.
Along the stone-paved streets you will find a mix of colonial and early 20th-century buildings like the Hotel California, built in 1928.
The church was built as a mission in 1733 and abandoned permanently in 1840. Although it has been renovated it is still a beautiful example of the architecture of the era.
Originally it was a dependency of the mission at La Paz. However, after the latter mission was abandoned in 1749 and the novices were moved to Todos Santos, this mission was given the name of Nuestra Señora del Pilar.

Located opposite the town’s main square, this colonial building is the site of the Festival of the Arts, held in February. It was built in 1935 and restored in 1983. The stage, box seats and decor hail back to the Porfirian era. It was named after a prominent citizen of the town, a general who played an active role in the War of Reform and against the French Intervention. In his time, he was also a famous writer and journalist.
This building houses a number of objects and artifacts showing the history of the peninsula, as well as exhibitions of photographs and paintings that depict the indigenous inhabitants, events and outstanding people from the history of Baja California Sur.
This is the most important cultural event in the region. This lovely town hosts arts events throughout the entire month of February. Local, national and foreign writers, singers, painters and craftspeople participate in the festival.
During the festival you will be able to enjoy the work of well-known actors, dancers, writers and visual artists. Visitors can also take delight in the fact that regional cuisine is also a part of the festival.

Less than 2 miles from town, you can visit the splendid beaches that face the Pacific Ocean and give the region its fame as the “Window on the Pacific”. The majority of the beaches of San Pedrito, Los Cerritos, Punta Lobos, La Poza, Batequitos and Los Esteros have strong waves, and are favorites among professional and skilled amateur surfers. There is good surfing all year round, and many of the surfers camp on the beaches so they can enjoy the spectacular waves from the break of day.
