Museums in La Paz

While you are in Cabo San Lucas, if you are into cultural information or are interested in knowing more about the area, its history and nature, you’ll find a number of museums in Los Cabos and the surrounding area, surely some will appeal to your tastes too.
The Whale Museum
At the Whale Museum (el Museo de la Ballena) you’ll find various illustrations, photos and other informational graphics that explain and inform the history of the seasonal whale migrations to the beautiful shores of southern Baja California, including an impressive 12-meter long skeleton that will surprise you. This museum is located within the Cultural Center Professor Jesús Castro Agúndez.
The building of the Cultural Center Professor Jesús Castro Agúndez is also notable from a modern architectural standpoint, as well as hosting the Whale Museum it is also home to the City Theater, the Historical Archive, some art galleries and the Public Library. It also offers green areas and a playground space for children.

Regional Anthropology
and History Museum
The interesting Regional Anthropology and History Museum has 4 areas that showcase different subjects that include prehistoric remains, objects from the colonial times and the modern era. It also has an ethno botanical garden and some rooms that offer educational and cultural programs.
Natural History Museum
It is located within the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur. This is a great museum with scientific collections that include paleontology, geology, paleo-biology and paleo-anthropology and showcases remains of marine mammals, birds and reptiles.
In the beginning the museum was used to house the "United Nations" School. This place is where all paleontological findings in the region are kept.
The museum also offers seven areas that include one that deals with local history, where you’ll find, among other things, for example, the tools used by local sailors, the story of Cabo San Lucas and more.
There is also an archaeological area where you can marvel at the remains of the skeleton of a Pericu, edúe or Cora woman, an ethnic group that inhabited the southern part of the peninsula of Baja California.
The ??biodiversity exposition shows a comprehensive seabed, information about the migration of whales and dolphins as well as sea turtle preservation projects.
Other areas in the museum exhibit astronomy, geology, paleontology and temporary expo halls.
Regional Telecommunications Museum
Cabo San Lucas also has a Regional Telecommunication Museum with more than 50 antique communication, television and radio devices. Portraits and biographies of very famous scientists are also showcased, such as Thomas Alva Edison, Samuel Morse and Mexican Juan de la Granja, who introduced the telegraph in Mexico.
Last but not least interesting, we mention the Los Cabos Cultural Center, which has a small collection of photographs of fossils and replicas of Indian paintings.
