Jeep Safaris in Cabo San Lucas

Jeep Safaris in Cabo San Lucas

Jeep Safaris in Cabo San Lucas

One of the main features of Cabo San Lucas is its wonderful vegetation and wildlife. The end of Baja California has one of the most beautiful faunas in the world, which is why if you visit Cabo San Lucas you should not limit yourself to just visiting nightclubs and restaurant and you should visit the "wild" side of Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos.

There is great variety of eco-tours in Cabo San Lucas, one of the most recommended and popular are the jeep safaris. Take the wheel of a Jeep in the early hours of the morning to explore the lesser known places in the area (but not less beautiful), from the tip of the Baja California peninsula along with other visitors looking for adventure will be a worthwhile and memorable experience.

One of the most visited places in the area is the "Sierra la Laguna" Biosphere Reserve. On the route to this wonderful place you can see how the strong currents of the rivers that reach the sea carved through the mountains that were in its way, drawing an unusual landscape. Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve is found in the State of Baja California Sur very close to the southern tip of the Peninsula.

The "Sierra la Laguna" Biosphere Reserve was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1994, it possesses a great variety of flora and fauna, it is known as the only forest on the peninsula of Baja California. While you are in this ecological wonder, where the cacti, palms and pinetrees grow alongside each other, you will be surrounded by hikers, mountain bikers and campers.

This semi-arid to temperate subhumid climate area represents extremely important contrasting ecosystems. It includes arid zones, matorrales (shrubs), low deciduous forest type, evergreen oak: Quercus devia (ìEncinoî) woods, pine-evergreen oak mix woods and oases with palms and ìguerivosî. These are found in gallery forests that follow long river basins. This variety of ecosystems results in a rich biodiversity, including 974 higher plant species, of these it is reported that over 23% are endemic and they include 5 endemic geneva (plum trees). Furthermore, this whole area is vital and ensures the water supply for the settlements that surround it.

The jeep safaris will allow you to learn more about the area of the Baja peninsula, surrounded by towering cardon cacti, ironwood trees and many desert flowers decorating the desert. It's recommended that for these sightseeing activities you take a certified guide along, because they possess an impressive repertoire of historical facts of the area as well as other survival skills (that you'll hopefully not need). Usually guides offer curious facts and legends about the area you are going through, providing data such as cacti that are ideal for obtaining water, bird species from the area, trees that provide edible fruits, plants you should stay away from, among many other interesting facts.

While you are driving in the different safari tours you'll normally visit some villages in the area such as Santiago, a colonial town founded in 1700 by Italian Jesuits, famous for a natural oasis in the desert.

You will be guided to specific locations that will provide wonderful views of the exotic landscape, covered with palm trees and different species of cactus. You will have the opportunity to enjoy unusual sceneries and the many contrasts in the area, complementing your visit to Cabo San Lucas.

Don't forget to take your camera, sunblock cream, suitable footwear, best sneakers or hiking boots, driving license, swimsuit, insect repellent and sun glasses.
