ATMs and Banks
ATM cash machines accept foreign debit and credit cards and are plentiful in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, with two ATMs in the Tourist Corridor—next to Enrique’s Restaurant at Km. 4, and inside Costco (membership required) at Km. 5. Some ATMS dispense cash in pesos and dollars, more so in the downtown areas of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
Banks offer limited currency exchange; some do not change dollars; ask before you line up. Although the exchange rate will be slightly lower, it is faster and more convenient to use the many money exchange booths found in the downtown areas of both towns.
Bank hours are generally Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 or 5 pm, with a few offering at least morning service on Saturdays. Some banks have very limited services in English. All banks are closed Sundays and holidays.
CURRENCY, BANKS & MONEY EXCHANGE
The peso is the national currency, although US dollars are widely accepted in businesses throughout both towns. Change is made on pesos. The 2005 rate of exchange fluctuated near 10.5 pesos to one US dollar; Canadian currency is generally not accepted for payment or at exchange booths and banks. Major credit cards are accepted in most establishments; but ask before you order, as not all restaurants and stores accept them. Traveler’s checks are also widely accepted.

Business Hours
Most shopping malls and stores are open from 9 am to 8 to 9 pm daily, some close for siesta, especially in the more traditional town of San Jose del Cabo.
Electricity
Mexico operates on the same 110-volt current as the United States, so electrical adapters are not needed.
Geography & Location
Los Cabos is located at the tip of the nearly 1,000-mile long Baja California peninsula, and within easy reach of the US and Canada. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, the world’s youngest and most biologically diverse sea. The area is classified as a tropical thorn forest, with vast tracts of desert terrain tumbling into the two seas. Cabo San Lucas, at the peninsula’s very tip, is where you find famous El Arco, the natural stone arch known the world over as a symbol of Los Cabos and its spectacular natural beauty.
